Week Five--July 14--Home to Harmony

A thread running through many of Gulley's stories is the connectedness of people in small town life. People like Frank can be "saved" by the opportunities presented in everyday relationships, as when he overcame his desperate loneliness and feelings of hopelessness after the death of his wife when he became involved in helping the Iversons and their twin baby girls. What other characters in Harmony are similarly engaged with their friends and neighbors? Do you think these close relationships are typical in small communities?

Week Five--July 14--Quiet Strength

What did Jim Irsay say to Tony Dungy about coaching the Indianapolis Colts that made his offer in 2002 sound so good?

Week Four--July 7--Home to Harmony

What do you think about the ways in which members of Harmony Friends Meeting attempted to deal with the disruptive "contributions" of Bob Miles, Sr. during meeting? Was appointing him "Official Prayer Warrior" an appropriate and effective action? Can you suggest another approach to dealing with Bob Sr.?

Week Four--July 7--Quiet Strength

What were some of the coaching & management strategies that Tony Dungy and his assistant coach, Herm Edwards, used to build up the Tampa Buccaneers to make them see themselves as winners?

Week Three--June 30--Home to Harmony

Why do you think Minister Sam Gardner was so unenthusiastic about the annual revival at the Harmony Friends Meeting?

Week Three--June 30--Quiet Strength

What was Coach Cal Stoll's message to his University of Minnesota football team about their NFL dreams? What effect do you think this message had on the players? On Tony Dungy?

Week Two--June 23--Home to Harmony

What do you think about the real estate "deal" between Sam & Barbara Gardner and the Neeleys, that allowed the new pastor and his family to buy a beautiful home in Harmony?

Week Two--June 23--Quiet Strength

Explain a few of the qualities of Tony Dungy's mom or dad that helped guide him into becoming who he is today. How do those qualities show in Tony's own decision making process?

Week One--June 16--Home to Harmony

In a Q & A on his web site at http://philipgulleybooks.com, Phil is asked, "What do you feel is the most important quality in a person?" His answer: "Tact." Do you agree? What other personal qualities would be particularly important in a person, especially if they serve in the ministry?

Week One--June 16--Quiet Strength

This past week, Tony Dungy was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame along with Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay and Colts president Bill Polian. With an overall 80-27 record since being named coach of the Colts in 2002, Tony Dungy clearly has what it takes to be the best coach so far in club history. What special qualities would you rank at the top for recognizing outstanding achivement in athletics?
